Celebrity talk show host Oprah spent her birthday in bed after injuring her back while lifting a heavy gift from her friend, Tyler Perry.

Oprah spent her 59th birthday in bed after the celebrity talk show host injured her back while lifting a present from her friend Tyler Perry.

What was the gift, you might ask? A box of books, a large cake, a statue?

Nope, a flower arrangement.

Fortunately, the injury wasn’t serious and Oprah was back on her feet the next day.

‘My mother forgave my father and he came back and made amends for a lot of things like helping me guide and building my musical career. He made a massive blunder but he also made a lot of things right‘, LL emotionally told Oprah.

He was also joined by his wife Simone to talk about celebrity life, raising a family and LL’s groupies.

EFCC nabs internet fraudsters with 45 laptops in Benin

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 20 suspected internet fraudsters in Benin City, Edo State.

According to the commission’s website, the arrest was carried out in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army in Benin after their activities were reported.

The suspects were apprehended in a ‘surprise raid’ at their Cyber office located in an old building on Siluko Road, Benin City

At the point of arrest, EFCC says the fraudsters had in their possession 45 laptops, 28 telephone sets, 8 internet mobile modems and one Nissan car.

The EFCC reports that most of the suspects ‘confessed to be engaged in online dating of foreigners particularly widows’.

They also confessed to using different pseudo names and faces to deceive their prospective victims. They are mostly in their twenties and their names were also given out.

Peter Odemwingie hits back at West Brom over QPR transfer fiasco

Peter Odemwingie has hit back at West Bromwich Albion after his proposed move to Queens Park Rangers fell through on the final day of the transfer window.
The striker accused the club of reneging on a gentleman’s agreement to let him sign for the west London club, saying he believed West Brom’s technical director, Dan Ashworth, had sanctioned the move. He also claimed Albion had signed him from Lokomotiv Moscow without permission.
It is understood that Odemwingie met with Ashworth and Richard Garlick, Albion’s legal director, at the club’s training ground this morning and has since been sent home and given a few days off. He will not feature in this weekend’s game against Tottenham.

Odemwingie turned up at Loftus Road on Thursday night expecting to sign, but was barred from the stadium. He had submitted a transfer request at The Hawthorns but when it was rejected he tweeted his frustration. However, a deal with QPR looked set to happen on Thursday, with Albion taking Junior Hoilett on loan in part-exchange, only for the QPR forward to refuse to move.
Although West Brom said they had no agreement over the transfer and Odemwingie did not have permission to speak to Rangers, the 31-year-old Nigerian then appeared at Loftus Road, where he was denied access. Despite attempts to revive the deal 15 minutes before the deadline, it fell apart.
Odemwingie told Sky Sports News: “I learned now that the role of technical director is not superior to a chairman. When you are in England, you are gentlemen and you have to understand each other. After talks there was no need for training. I said I can go now, I got the go ahead from what I understand.
“I went round to thank everyone in the club, the laundry, left some autographs. I promised to come back next week. I will miss them. I went to see everyone to say thanks very much. In my opinion everything was done right. In the last moment I don’t know what happened. I think he [Ashworth] can deny it, he has to look good in this situation.”
West Brom said Odemwingie had behaved “wholly unprofessionally” and the club’s chairman, Jeremy Peace, added: “Peter must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments.”
Odemwingie retorted: “We will find a way forward which is suitable for everyone. The truth is we all went wrong somewhere. A few days ago [Peace] told me himself we could have handled it differently. I agreed. I said we have burned some bridges. It was never out of money, it was my professional desire. I was ready to give up my bonus of £300K already earned and I offered it back to the club.
“I don’t know really what happened. Whatever path we have to take, we need to sit down and iron this issue out. I came to this club in a wholly unprofessional way. I wasn’t given any permission by Lokomotiv Moscow. I’m saying these things don’t matter so much when adults are dealing with each other.”
West Brom will hope Odemwingie can put all thoughts of the past week out of his mind and concentrate on club matters, starting on Sunday when ninth-placed Albion host fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The club are due to hold a press conference on Friday afternoon at which Odemwingie’s future will be addressed.
Odemwingie is unsure what his immediate future at West Brom holds for him, but believes he is still likely to leave in the summer. He added: “I love the club, I love the fans, I did perform here, I did enjoy myself here. I will always love the club, no matter what’s happened, but I will still leave, it’s just a matter of time. I’m not saying it in a harsh way. I mean my contract is going to run out in a year and a half, I wasn’t offered an extension here.
“What I mean is my career as a whole will end one day, so will my contract here at West Brom. We’re not enemies, it’s all about football at the end of the day, it’s nothing personal. There’s nothing maybe illegal from any side, but maybe things went wrong, maybe a bit unprofessional, but with that we almost still got there.”
QPR manager Harry Redknapp said he felt sorry for the situation Odemwingie found himself in. “I wasn’t at all disappointed yesterday as I felt we made some fantastic signings,” Redknapp said. “I was just disappointed the way the Peter Odemwingie situation went. I was disappointed for the boy.
“The whole thing was a bit of a mess. I felt genuinely sorry for him. I think there was a mistake. He travelled down and I think he thought the deal was done and that is why he turned up. I think he thought ‘I better get down, have the medical, sign the forms’ – it was just a mistake. It is now difficult as he has to go back to West Brom and get on with his life.
“It wasn’t easy. He is not a bad lad, he is a nice, nice boy and that is what disturbed me last night, that he got himself into that situation and there was nothing sort of malicious in it.”

Kim K showed off her baby bump while visiting a Los Angeles gym on Wednesday night, according to Us Weekly.

The 32-year-old was wearing spandex pants, a tight T-shirt and an open hoodie and trust the paparazzi to capture her growing belly as she walked in the parking lot.

‘She’s been doing amazing,’ celebrity fitness guru Tracy Anderson told Us Weekly about Kardashian’s pre-baby workouts.

‘She’s doing it with caution and she’s listening to her body; she’s not overdoing anything. She’s such a great example — I’m so proud of her’, she added.

The Majek Fashek interview: ‘I’m not a mad man’

It took me a while to find my way to the Sewage Road, Gowon Estate residence of Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek.

As I knocked on the gate, a young man named Ogaga came to attend to me. I introduced myself as a Journalist from Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) and explained my mission. He tried to dissuade me from seeing the rainmaker, insisting that I needed to speak with the management before I could chat with him.

But Majek heard our dialogue, rushed to the gate and insisted that I come in. The nineties hit-maker was dressed in a denim shirt and jeans. It was 10am in the morning of Friday January 25. Majek  was already reeking of alchohol.

Since Ogaga had warned me against having an interview with the veteran reggae artiste, I left  the premises and waited not too far from the house, hoping to catch Majek coming out of the apartment.

I was determined to speak with the man who many say has become mentally imbalanced, about to roam the streets.

And it was my lucky day, as 25 minutes later, Majek wandered out of the house. I approached him and he readily suggested a place we could go and drink talk.

For a man who was admired all over the world, and tipped to be the next big thing after Bob marley, Majek has become a shadow of himself.

After agreeing to buy him a bottle of Big Stout, while also giving him N500 (he asked for N4,000), we get to sit down for a quick, albeit  revealing chat…

Your album was scheduled to be released sometime this month, is that still possible?

The album is ready. It will be released next month. It is titled ‘I Am Not Afraid.’

Who are the artistes that you featured on the album?

I featured Blackface and Tuface.

Reports have it that you are having problems with your label?

Yes, we are having problems. Haija (his manager) wants to cheat me. We had an agreement that she would get me accommodation, a car and other things. I’m in this house now and there’s no light (electricity). I have been here suffering. They also monitor my movement as if I am a child. The Mercedes Benz they gave me is lying out there broken.

They say they need four hundred thousand naira (N400,000) to repair the vehicle. Here I am, I have nothing. Little Wizkid has a jeep while I have nothing. I have a green card, I can always go back to America, but God said I should not go yet. I allow Hajia to do as she pleases because she is a woman and she is like a daughter to me.

Do you have children or family you could have been staying with?

I have four boys, and they are all in America with their mother, an Igbo woman. I can’t ask my children to come to Nigeria because if they experience NEPA, they won’t like me again. The eldest is in college now and he is a rapper. He has just been signed by the American rapper, Lil Wayne. You know you can’t compare American rap with Nigerian rap. Nigerians can rap but they don’t have the swagger of the Americans.

So which young Nigerian artistes that you like?

You know these days they use a drum machine. There are hardly any real musicians amongst them. I like Wizkid and 2face. They play good music. I don’t like that other boy they call D’banj; those ones that went to join Illuminati. How can you go and sell your soul to the devil because you want to be famous? I don’t even like his music anyway.

Have you read stories saying you’re going mad?

I didn’t read it, I was told by my boys in this beer parlour. Look at me, am I mad? I’m a strong man. I may look old and rough right now, but I know what I’m saying and what I’m doing. Many people think that Majek has gone and that Majek is no more, but I’m still here and I’m probably going to live longer than a lot of you.

Your label also reported you missing. Where were you the whole time?

I was in heaven. I went to see Fela Anikulapo Kuti in heaven. I was in heaven the whole time they were looking for me. Fela was not happy with me. He told me that some people want to kill Femi (Kuti). He said that Femi is his heir and that there are some elements that are trying to assassinate him. He told me that he will hold me responsible if anything should happen to Femi. He even gave me this ring I’m wearing.

Did he say who was trying to kill Femi?

He said the government.

Did he mention a specific name?

He just said the government.

Do you still use cocaine?

I have never ever used cocaine. I don’t do drugs. It is just me, my beer and my ogogoro (local gin).

Are you saying you didn’t do drugs in America?

I never did drugs. It was just a conspiracy to get me off my music because I was speaking and singing the truth.

Conspiracy by whom?

By the powers that be. Powers in high places.

You sound like a very spiritual person…

I am a very spiritual man. I am a ‘juju’ on my own. Sometimes I can go into a trance and relate with spirits in the spirit world. The ‘Cele’ tried to stop me, they couldn’t. The ‘aladura’ also tried but they couldn’t tame me. As I am, no spirit can do anything [to me].

Do you miss the glory days when you were one of the biggest artistes in Africa?

I’m still in my glory days. I’m still a legend. I still play my music every Friday night in this joint. In America we have what we call royalties, money paid the artiste for each time his music or video is played. I still get my royalties. I still have my guitar and I play it all the time

The Nigerian Broadcast Commission (NBC) says it did not ban the videos of Psquare, Timaya, Tilaman, D’Prince and others, as previously reported in the media. 

Speaking through its Acting Public Relations Officer, Maimuna Jimada, NBC said the commission was simply using its NTBB (Not to be broadcast) directive, to  ensure that musical videos and audios made for public consumption are safe. ‘If a music video or audio has content that is not suitable for broadcast we tag these videos and audio as not to be put on air’, she told a NET reporter.

‘Also we inform stations across the country not to broadcast them’, she added.

Also commenting on the NTBB directive, the Deputy Director and Head of Corporate affairs, National Films and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Mr Yunusa Tanko, says the board was unaware of the development. He said although the board was in charge of censoring the content of musical video, artistes failed to bring their works to the board for proper check before broadcast. He explained that since the videos were produced for broadcast, it was also the duty of NBC to monitor their contents.

‘You can’t play on a pitch like this!’ Adebayor slams Mbombela stadium

Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor has slammed the Confederation of African Football (Caf) and the local organising committee for the state of the pitch at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

The Tottenham Hotspur player complained about the sandy and bumpy surface after Togo drew 1-1 against Tunisia on Wednesday to reach the playoffs of the continental competition for the first time. They face Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Zambia captain Chris Katongo had also spoken out earlier in the week about the uneven field which made it difficult for teams to play their normal passing games.

‘Once again we are in Africa – Afcon is a big tournament for Africa –the whole world is watching this. You can’t play on a pitch like this,’ Adebayor said.

‘The stadium is one of the best I have played in, but to be honest with you, I’m very sorry, but it’s a disgrace for our continent to be playing on this pitch when its on the TV around the world.

‘Caf have to sort things out, to solve the problem. At the end of the day we are all African and we have to be honest with ourselves – it’s a beautiful stadium but the pitch is not happening.

‘Those people that watch the game in Europe, they will be sending SMS’s to me tonight asking me, ‘are you playing in the bush or what?’. It’s a disgrace to our continent, we can do better.’

The issue with the playing surface arose after sand had been laid on the pitch to counter several days of heavy rain – a move which was apparently not sanctioned by the Caf.

‘South Africans had the chance to organise the 2010 World Cup,’ Adebayor said.

‘I think Caf should have come one month before to get the pitch in a better condition, but at the end of the day we are here and we have to find a way to play.’

Rihanna covers Rolling Stone Magazine, talks about giving Chris Brown a second chance

They’ve been spotted together one too many times, posted photos of themselves in cozy positions on Instagram and even sang a song titled ‘Nobody’s business’ but Pop singers Rihanna and Chris Brown are still not confirming or denying they are dating.

In a recent interview with Rollingstone Magazine which she covers for the second time, Rihanna says she won’t let anyone’s opinion get in the way of her happiness.

‘I decided it was more important for me to be happy. I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it‘, Rihanna said.

She also said Chris doesn’t have the the luxury of making the mistake he did by assaulting her back in 2009, a day before the Grammy Awards.

‘We don’t have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about shit. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don’t want to lose that… He doesn’t have the luxury of fucking up again. That’s just not an option. I can’t say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I’m pretty solid in knowing that he’s disgusted by that. And I wouldn’t have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility‘.

From music to fashion – Don Jazzy has announced he is setting up his Mavin clothing line pretty soon.

The music producer and record lable owner announced his new business venture via micrco-blogging site Twitter yesterday January 29, 2013, saying that  the clothing line will ba making its debut in the summer.

‘#MavinClothing 60% loading… Summer 2013. Watch this space. I dey hail o. IDJA’, he tweeted. It is unclear whether the producer is working with a fashion designer in the background

Rick Ross survives drive-by shooting on 37th birthday

US rapper Rick Ross has been involved in a ghastly car crash following a failed drive by shooting incident.

The incident occurred early this morning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Today is the rapper’s 37th birthday.

MTV reports that police were called to an intersection in the South Florida neighbour at around 5 a.m. in response to reports of a car accident and gun shots being fired.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, they discovered that Ross’ Rolls Royce had slammed into a residential building after being fired upon. The shooters have not been identified.

Witnesses on the scene say Ross and an unidentified woman were in the Rolls Royce when it crashed to evade the gun fire.

The rapper and his female companion were not injured during the crash and the police have yet to reveal her name for safety reasons…
