EFCC nabs internet fraudsters with 45 laptops in Benin
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 20 suspected internet fraudsters in Benin City, Edo State.
According to the commission’s website,
the arrest was carried out in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army
in Benin after their activities were reported.
The suspects were apprehended in a ‘surprise raid’ at their Cyber office located in an old building on Siluko Road, Benin City
At the point of arrest, EFCC says the
fraudsters had in their possession 45 laptops, 28 telephone sets, 8
internet mobile modems and one Nissan car.
The EFCC reports that most of the suspects ‘confessed to be engaged in online dating of foreigners particularly widows’.
They also confessed to using different
pseudo names and faces to deceive their prospective victims. They are
mostly in their twenties and their names were also given out.
